Forward Madison Dealt First Away Loss of the Season in Chattanooga

With a short turnaround between games, Forward Madison FC traveled to Tennessee to face Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Wednesday, June 7th. This was FMFC's 10th match of the USL League One season, as they looked to continue their winning ways away from home. 'Mingos fans flocked to the Forward Club to watch the match kick off just after 6:30pm CT.
The match started with some high press and raised tensions from both sides, as things quickly became intense. FMFC defender Sam Brotherton was issued a yellow card in the seventh minute of the match, which unfortunately dictated the play in the first half for Forward Madison. Chattanooga dominated possession; however, Forward Madison had a golden opportunity in the 27th minute, when Jake Crull sent a ball across the box, and a wide-open Stephen Payne was unable to convert the chance. Chattanooga continued to knock on the door, and in the 37th minute, they capitalized on a set piece with a header whizzing past FMFC goalkeeper Bernd Shipmann to find the bottom left corner. In the 45th minute, Chattanooga once again caught Forward Madison's defense off guard and scored off a counterattack. The half ended with the Flamingos down 0-2.
Derek Gebhard came onto the pitch for Forward Madison to start the second half, and energy quickly shifted to favor the Flamingos' offense. FMFC striker Christian Chaney found himself open for a few shots on goal but wasn't able to find the back of the net. As time ticked down, Forward Madison kept the pressure high, continuing to attack in hopes of getting back in the game. In the 67th minute, Forward Madison found themselves in a wild sequence in front of the net. FMFC's Isidro Martinez sent a corner kick into the box, and several 'Mingos players swarmed the box without luck. Chattanooga regained control of the flow of the match in the final fifteen minutes and saw out the 2-0 win over FMFC in Tennessee.
Next up, Forward Madison will come back home to face the top team in USL League One, North Carolina FC, on Saturday, June 10th at 7pm.
