
Forty-Three Former Kernels Invited to Angels Spring Training

Cedar Rapids, IA - Forty-three former Kernels will be in the LA Angels' camp when Spring Training opens on February 19th in Tempe, AZ. Twenty-one former players are members of the Angels 40-man roster and an additional eighteen were added as non-roster invitees. General Manager Tony Reagins made the announcement on Friday, January 28th.
The former players on the 40-man roster include pitchers Trevor Bell, Ysmael Carmona, Bobby Cassevah, Kevin Jepsen, Mike Kohn, Ervin Santana, Rich Thompson and Jordan Walden; catchers Hank Conger, Jeff Mathis and Bobby Wilson; infielders Erick Aybar, Alberto Callaspo, Howie Kendrick, Andrew Romine, Freddy Sandoval, Mark Trumbo, and Brandon Wood; and outfielders Peter Bourjos, Jeremy Moore, and Chris Pettit.
Five members of the 2010 Kernels were added as non-roster invitees: RHP Garrett Richards, catchers Jose Jimenez and Carlos Ramirez; infielder Jean Segura; and outfielder Mike Trout.
Thirteen more (five pitchers and eight position players) have played in Cedar Rapids: pitchers Ryan Brasier, Ryan Chaffee, Tyler Chatwood, Trevor Reckling, and Andrew Taylor; catchers Anel de los Santos and Alberto Rosario; infielders Alexi Amarista, Gabe Jacobo, Efren Navarro, and Darwin Perez; and outfielders Tyson Auer and Angel Castillo.
The Angels' minor league camp opens the first week of March with pitchers and catchers, followed position players reporting the second week. The 2011 Kernels arrive in Cedar Rapids on Monday, April 4.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels open the 2011 season on the road at Peoria on Thursday, April 7, with the home opener on Monday, April 11 vs. Wisconsin at 6:35 pm. Season tickets and 10-game coupon books are on sale now at www.kernels.com, with individual game tickets going on sale March 21 at 10 am.
