Fort Worth defeats El Paso

The Fort Worth Cats defeated the El Paso Diablos 6-4 in the season finale from Cohen Stadium on Saturday night.

Fort Worth broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. The Cats pounded out five runs off of three base hits. Osiel Flores provided the bulk of the offense with a grand slam as Fort Worth took a 5-0 lead.

The Diablos stormed back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kory Drew had a sacrifice fly RBI, Bryan Cooksey scored on a wild pitch and Marcel Longmire blasted a solo homer over the left field wall cutting the margin to 5-3.

El Paso crept closer in the bottom of the seventh. Bryan Cooksey lined a solo-home run, his first of the year over the left field wall making it a 6-4 game.

Pedro Flores (14-3) is the winner. He threw five full for the Cats allowing three earned runs off of four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Josh Kauten (3-4) is the losing pitcher. He threw four innings allowing three earned runs off of six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Jon Hunton earned his 22nd save of the season as he threw a scoreless ninth inning.

The 2008 baseball season has come to an end for the El Paso Diablos. The entire organization would like to thank all of our fans for a successful year! We look forward to seeing you all again at Cohen Stadium for the 2009 season!
