St. Paul Saints News Release

The St. Paul Saints 2008 season came to a close on Saturday night at Lewis and Clark Park with a 9-0 loss to the Sioux City Explorers.

The Explorers put up five runs in the third inning as Chad Gabriel led off the inning with an inside the park homer. Gabriel drove a ball to center that went over the head of Ron Feniwck and as the ball one hopped the wall Fenwick kicked it into right-center allowing Gabriel to race around the bases. Tug Gillingham followed with a single, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Derek Schermerhorn made it 2-0 with a single to center. Dustin Jones walked and Sam Walker knocked both runs in with a double to right-center. After Mark Romanczuk got the next two guys Juan Senreiso drove home Walker with a single to right-center.

In the fifth the Explorers made it 6-0 as Dustin Jones, Sam Walker and Alex Llanos all singled, the latter driving in a run.

That was more than enough offense for the Explorers who used five pitchers to shutout the Saints, who managed just four hits. The Saints had just four singles and two men reached second base. The first was Jimmy Mojica in the third as he hit a two out single to right and advanced to third on two wild pitches. Ben Thomas struck out to end the inning. In the ninth Ron Fenwick doubled and after a walk to Pichi Balet, Kevin Sullivan grounded into a double play. Adam Hale ended the night striking out.
