FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 17, 2012) - The Fort Myers Miracle and the Dunedin Blue Jays split a doubleheader on Tuesday evening at Hammond Stadium. The Miracle took game one, 2-1, but lost the backend of the double dip, 6-0.

In game one, Cole Nelson pitched into the sixth and gave up one unearned run and four hits. He walked two and also struck out a pair.

The Miracle scored both runs in the first. Blue Jays starter Asher Wojciechowski gave up a lead off single to Daniel Santana and a double to Levi Michael on an 0-2 pitch to put runners at second and third.

Rene Tosoni grounded out on a ball that allowed Santana to score. Then, with the infield drawn in, Josmil Pinto blooped a single to center to plate Michael for a 2-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Nelson was in cruise control. He gave up just three hits in the first five innings. He pitched around a leadoff double by Marcus Knecht in the third and watched as Pinto threw out Justin Jackson trying to steal second to end the fifth.

The Blue Jays scratched a run across the plate in the sixth, but A.J. Achter held the lead in relief. Nelson started the inning by walking Jon Berti and giving up a sharp single to Jonathan Jones.

Achter was called in and immediately got a fly ball to center field, but Lance Ray and Daniel Ortiz collided in left-center and the ball popped out of Ray's glove, loading the bases with no outs.

Achter recovered to get Ryan Schimpf to pop out to shallow left. A wild pitch let Berti score to make it 2-1 and move the tying run move to third. However, Achter struck out John Talley and Koby Clemens with sliders to get out of the jam with the lead in tact.

Achter locked down his third save by pitching a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.

Nelson picked up his fifth win of the season while Wojciechowski fell to 7-3.

Santana and Pinto each went 2-for-3.

In game two, the Dunedin Blue Jays scored six runs off Miracle starter Madison Boer including five runs in the top of the third inning. Justin Jackson, Jon Berti, and Jonathan Jones hit back-to-back-to-back doubles to plate two runs to push a one-run lead to 3-0.

After a groundout of Kevin Pillar, Boer (4-8) balked in a third run of the inning and then surrendered a solo homerun to Ryan Schimpf, his 13th of the season. The Blue Jays scored another run on a run-scoring single from Koby Clemens to round out a five-run, six-hit inning.

Clemens homered to give the Blue Jays an early lead in the second inning.

The Miracle (40-53, 12-14) will go for the series victory in the finale against the Dunedin Blue Jays (52-40, 11-15) on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. The Miracle will convert Hammond Stadium to a wet and wild waterpark Wednesday morning. Tickets will be available at the Capital Bank Ticket Office in the morning.

Fans can listen to every pitch at www.miraclebaseball.com with the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman and Adam MacDonald. The State Farm pregame show begins at 11:45 a.m.
