April 25, 2010 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
The Cardinals carried the momentum of a late victory over the Miracle on Saturday night as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on Sunday afternoon, and eventually cruised to a 10-3 lopsided victory. Michael Tarsi (1-2), lasted only five innings allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits for his second loss of the season. The Cardinals scored early and often in the game, with 12 hits on the afternoon and scoring runs in five of the nine innings.
In the first, with two-outs and the bases loaded, Xavier Scruggs hit a two-RBI single for the first two runs, then Alex Castellanos followed with a two-RBI double to put the Cardinals up 4-0.
The Miracle (5-11) scored one run in the bottom of the first against Palm Beach starter Brian Broderick on a fielder's choice groundout by Chris Herrmann - making it 4-1.
After the Cardinals (8-7) added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, the Miracle picked up their second run of the day on another fielder's choice groundout, with Dan Rohlfing picking up the RBI to make it 6-2.
Palm Beach would plate two runs in the seventh and eighth innings to go up 10-2 before Fort Myers added their third and final run in the bottom of the eight, as Drew Thompson capped off a 3-for-5 afternoon with a two-out RBI double. Thompson joins Yangervis Solarte, who had three hits yesterday, as the only players to record three-hit outings on the season.
Brain Broderck (1-2) picked up his first win of the season in six innings of work. The Cardinals, who started the season 0-5, have now won 8 of their last 10, including all four match-ups against the Miracle this year.
The Miracle finished with 11 hits on the day, which is tied for the most they've had in a game this season.
The two teams will wrap up their series on Monday night before the Miracle head on the road to play six games against Jupiter and St. Lucie. Bobby Lanigan (1-0) will try and snap the Miracle's three-game losing skid. First pitch from Hammond Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m.
