Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the hiring of former Major League pitcher Bill Pulsipher to be the team`s pitching coach.

Pulsipher, 38, was selected by the New York Mets in the second round (66th overall) in the 1991 MLB amateur draft. As the No. 12 rated prospect by Baseball America, he reached the Majors with the Mets in 1995, going 5-7 with a 3.98 ERA in 17 starts. After a couple more seasons in the minors, Pulsipher spent parts of the 1998-2001 seasons in the Big Leagues with the Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox. His final Major League stint came back in 2005 when he saw action in five games with the St. Louis Cardinals. In total, Pulsipher appeared in 106 Major League games, including 46 starts. He had a career 13-19 record with a 5.15 ERA.

"He's a huge addition to our organization and to say I am thrilled is an understatement," Forney said. "He has a lot to offer to young pitchers in our organization. I know he's really excited about coming and starting this chapter of his life. He's moved on from playing and he's looking forward to starting his career fresh as a pitching coach."

Pulsipher is no stranger to the Goldeyes. He made six starts for the team late in the 2009 season, going 4-2 with a 3.35 ERA. Now he becomes the leader of the pitching staff he helped push into the playoffs three seasons ago.

"I am looking forward to starting my career as a pitching coach in Winnipeg and helping the young guys learn as much as they can from my experiences," Pulsipher said.

"I'd like to say that we'll be an aggressive pitching staff. Everybody is going to be able to have their own style of pitching. Hopefully I can incorporate what I understand about pitching into their style and help to get the most out of them."

Pulsipher completed his 18-year professional career last season with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League. He went 3-6 in with a 4.00 ERA in 18 starts.

The hiring of Pulsipher fills the void left when Brendan Sagara left in December to become the manager of the Maui Strong Warriors and then subsequently took a pitching coach position in the Florida Marlins organization.

Fans looking to purchase season tickets and nine-game mini packs for the 2012 season can call the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273) or visit the Shaw Park box office.
