Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Three weeks ago, the Goldeyes learned who they will play next year. They learned today who will lead them.
Team president & CEO Sam Katz announced that manager Rick Forney will be back in 2010 for a fifth season. He has led the club to playoff spots in each of his four years while compiling a record of 210-173, good for a.548 winning percentage, all while seeing 15 of his players picked up by Major League clubs.
"From his days as a pitcher to becoming the pitching coach and then the manager, the Goldeyes organization has been served very well by Rick Forney," said Katz. "Not only is he good at what he does, he is well-liked by his players, by our fans and by the organization, so bringing him back was a very easy decision to make."
Forney, 38, arrived in Winnipeg in 1997 and was the staff ace for three seasons before becoming the pitching coach in 2000. He occupied that role for six seasons until he was named on November 15, 2005 as the third manager in franchise history.
FISH FOOD: Outfielder Kurt Crowell has joined Forney and all-star shortstop Wes Long on the list of instructors for the Goldeyes Holiday Camp on December 19. As of Wednesday morning, the skills clinic for boys and girls ages 7 to 12 had fewer than 40 spots remaining.
