Former UAA Standout Added for Stretch Drive

March 19, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Anchorage Aces have signed former UAA forward Petr Chytka for the remainder of the 2002-03 season.

Chytka, who turned 24 last Friday, played for three and a half seasons at the University of Alaska-Anchorage before leaving the team midway through this year, his senior campaign. He enjoyed a terrific junior season, scoring 13 goals and assisting on nine others in 34 games. The Czech native had a team-best five game-winning goals among his total of 13 and was named to the WCHA All-Academic team for the second straight year. In 120 career games with the Seawolves, Chytka scored 43 points (24g-19a), including one goal and one assist in the first 17 contests UAA played this season.

Meanwhile, Paul Williams, who missed Anchorage's first 33 games this year due to a broken wrist suffered in training camp, fractured the other wrist in last Friday's win over San Diego and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Earlier this year, he became only the fourth player in WCHL history to reach the 500-point plateau and at 517 for his career, trails only teammate Dean Larson and Craig Lyons on the all-time scoring list. The 32-year-old Williams finished with 26 points on eight goals and 18 assists in 30 games this season. His 238 goals and 468 games played rank behind only Larson (257 and 514, respectively) in WCHL history.

The Aces begin an eight-game, 18-day road trip Friday night against the Fresno Falcons in Selland Arena at 6:30 p.m. AST. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
