Former Steamwheelers Helping AFL Teams Make Playoff Push

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The 2004 Arena Football League season is slowly coming to an end and nine (of 15) former Quad City Steamwheelers are helping their team make a push for the playoffs.

The Las Vegas Gladiators had a commanding 63-35 victory over the Philadelphia Soul this past weekend. In the game, fullback/linebacker Frank Carter had four rushes for four yards, one for a touchdown to go along with a 4-yard pass reception on offense. On defense he had 3.5 tackles and a forced fumble. His teammate (current and former) wide receiver/defensive back Dennison Robinson had a 5-yard reception and 3.5 tackles, a tackle for loss, an interception and two kick returns for 33 yards in the game.

Helping guide his team to a huge upset of the San Jose Sabercats was Arizona Rattlers fullback/linebacker Frank Trentadue. Trentadue had a tackle, tackle for loss and a sack in the Rattlers 58-41 over the Sabercats.

The New York Dragons improved to 8-5 and bettered their playoff chances with a 61-39 victory over the Carolina Cobras. Dragons' wide receiver/linebacker Chris Anthony caught three passes for 40 yards and a touchdown and had 1.5 tackles on defense in the win. His teammate, lineman Tim McGill had a tackle, forced a fumble and added a pass breakup in the game.

Austin Wranglers defensive specialist Brent Browner had three tackles (two solo) and a pass breakup in a 48-36 Wranglers win over the Dallas Desperados.

Despite a loss, Columbus Destroyers quarterback Jay McDonagh saw action and completed 4 of 5 passes for 35 yards. Lineman Jamarr Ward had 2.5 tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack and a forced fumble in the Destroyers 72-51 loss to the Georgia Force.

Making his AFL debut this weekend was former ‘Wheelers defensive specialist and current Chicago Rush wide receiver/defensive back Leo FenceRoy. FenceRoy caught a pass for five yards on offense and had two tackles on defense in the Rush's 63-35 thumping of the Grand Rapids Rampage.
