FRIDAY, MAY 7
Quad City Steamwheelers 47, PEORIA PIRATES (Attendance: 5,278)
PEORIA, Ill. - Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game Ronnie Gordon completed 18-of-30 passes for 231 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Quad City Steamwheelers (5-1) to a 47-20 win over the Peoria Pirates (2-4) Friday night at the Peoria Civic Center. Gordon also rushed six times for 23 yards and another score. Leading receiver for the Steamwheelers was Tim Dodge with nine catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Jeff Hewitt also caught two touchdowns on five receptions for 82 yards. Brandon Campbell caught six passes for 98 yards and two scores to pace the Pirates. The Pirates totaled 55 rushing yards in the game.
SATURDAY, MAY 8
ALBANY CONQUEST 52, WB/Scranton Pioneers 45 (Attendance: 4,387)
ALBANY, N.Y. - D Bryant's 13-yard rushing touchdown with 12 seconds left in the game lifted the Albany Conquest (1-4) to a 52-45 victory over the previously unbeaten Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (4-1) Saturday night at Pepsi Arena. For Bryant, who earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game, it was his third rushing tally of the night. He also completed 18-of-28 for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Tony Locke caught one of Bryant's passes and he rushed for a score and he had a 56-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Pioneers QB Tim Hicks went 20-of-34 for 310 yards and five touchdowns in the losing effort. Two of those scores went to J.R. Thomas, who had six receptions for 127 yards to lead all receivers.
Manchester Wolves 45, CAPE FEAR WILDCATS 41 (Attendance: 3,103)
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Allistair Sebastien intercepted an endzone bound pass as time expired to help the Manchester Wolves (3-3) hold off the Cape Fear Wildcats (3-2) 45-41 Saturday night at Crown Coliseum. George Williams' eight-yard touchdown reception put the Wolves in front for good with 18 seconds left in the game. For the night, Williams led all receivers with 13 receptions for 151 yards and four touchdowns. Wolves QB Chris Sanders completed 21-of-35 passes for 225 yards and seven touchdowns. Cape Fear gunslinger Chris Wallace went 18-of-30 passing for 232 yards with five touchdowns and one rushing tally, but threw two interceptions. Matt Burstein led the Wildcats with five receptions for 81 yards and two scores.
Florida Firecats 62, COLUMBUS WARDOGS 33 (Attendance: 3,210)
COLUMBUS, Ga. - Ken Mastrole completed 21-of-29 passes for 275 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions as the Florida Firecats (3-2) dropped the Columbus Wardogs (1-4) 62-33 Saturday night at the Columbus Civic Center. Mastrole threw touchdowns to four different receivers, including two to Cainon Lamb, Magic Benton and Anthony Snead. Columbus' Adrian Cockfield led all receivers in the game with 12 receptions for 112 yards and two scores. QB Kyle Rowley completed 33-of-45 passes for 299 yards and five touchdowns for the Wardogs. On defense, Quincy Sorrell registered 12 solo tackles for the Firecats.
BIRMINGHAM STEELDOGS 55, Macon Knights 27 (Attendance: 5,831)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Detronn Harris scored three touchdowns on four carries for 15 yards to lead the Birmingham Steeldogs (4-1) past the Macon Knights (1-4) 55-27 Saturday night at the Civic Center. Harris also hauled in two passes for 50 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown reception. QB Jeff Aaron (7-of-12 for 107 yards and two touchdowns) split time with Kenton Evans who went 6-of-10 for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Rookie QB Cecil Lester went 21-for-40 for 255 yards and three touchdowns in his first start for the Knights, but he also threw three interceptions to Anthony Jordan. Jamaal Garman hauled in 10 receptions for 134 yards and one touchdown to lead the Knights. Garman also added a rushing touchdown.
Louisville Fire 70, MEMPHIS XPLORERS 63 (Attendance: 2,957)
SOUTH HAVEN, Miss. - Matt Sauk completed 24-of-40 passes for 277 yards and 10 touchdowns as the Louisville Fire (4-1) topped the Memphis Xplorers (2-3) 70-63 Saturday night at the DeSoto Center. Sauk, who became only the second player in history to throw 10 touchdowns, completed 14 passes to James Scott for 201 yards and six scores. Memphis' Kevin Prentiss was named Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game as he tied a league record by returning three kickoffs for touchdowns in the losing effort. He also led the Xplorers with four receptions for 57 yards and another score. Louisville's Takuya Furutani, who was assigned to the Fire via the 2004 International Player Draft, caught two passes for 18 yards and two touchdowns. GREEN BAY BLIZZARD 50, Central Valley Coyotes 32 (Attendance: 3,872)
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Randall Lane hauled in 10 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns to help the Green Bay Blizzard (2-3) overtake the Central Valley Coyotes (0-5) 50-32 Saturday night at the Resch Center. Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game Chris Greisen completed 21-of-31 passes for 276 yards and six touchdowns for the Blizzard. DeRonn Finley, Robert Garth and Ronnie Washburn each caught a touchdown for the Blizzard. Central Valley received nine receptions for 110 yards and one score from Kenyatte Morgan.
TULSA TALONS 65, Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings 59 (Attendance: 3,547)
TULSA, Okla. - Mitch Allner, Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game, corralled 10 passes for 182 yards and four touchdowns to lift the Tulsa Talons (3-2) past the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (2-4) 65-59 Saturday night at the Tulsa Convention Center. Allner also amassed 145 yards on one missed field goal and six kick returns. Tulsa QB Michael Wall completed 21-of-29 for 226 yards and five touchdowns, with one interception. For the Battle Wings, Sherard Poteete went 15-of-24 for 222 yards and six touchdowns and he rushed for another score. Leading receiver for the Battle Wings was Bo Smith who had six catches for 114 yards and five touchdowns. Smith also registered 138 yards on kickoff returns, including two touchdown returns.
Tennessee Valley Vipers 55, ARKANSAS TWISTERS 36 (Attendance not available)
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Ronny Daniels earned Baby Ruth Offensive Player of the Game honors by catching five touchdowns in the Tennessee Valley Vipers (4-1) 53-36 win over the Arkansas Twisters (1-4) Saturday night at ALLTEL Arena. Vipers QB Josh Kellett threw for six touchdowns and Arkansas QB Kevin Williams completed three touchdown strikes. Ted Alford caught a touchdown and returned a kick for a 56-yard score for the Twisters. Newly signed defensive specialist Norman Mason had two interceptions to earn ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors for Arkansas.
Wichita Stealth 35, RIO GRANDE VALLEY 28 (Attendance: 5,600)
HIDALGO, TEXAS - Two of the top defensive teams in the af2 and played a defensive battle in Hidalgo, Texas. The game began with an eleven-minute drive by the Wichita Stealth (5-0) which yielded zero points as the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (3-2) blocked the field goal try. In the end though it was the Wichita Stealth pulling out the victory to remain the only undefeated team in the league. After taking their first lead in the fourth quarter the Stealth capitalized on a Will Burch fumble with an Anthony Griffin rushing touchdown to go up by fourteen points and take control. Wichita quarterback Aaron Sparrow threw for 218 yards and four touchdowns including eleven of twelve passing in the second half. The Stealth's Brian Livingston earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the game award for his seven receptions for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
OKLAHOMA CITY YARD DAWGZ 79, Laredo Law 48 (Attendance: 6,002)
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (4-1) began the game with a 55-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Timon Marshall and set the pace for the rest of the night. The Laredo Law (0-5) only got as close as seven points, and Oklahoma City took over in the second half with two touchdown passes from Craig Strickland to Al Hunt to start the third quarter. Strickland totaled seven touchdown passes on the game. On defense the Yard Dawgz recorded four fumbles, an interception by Chris Archie (ADT Defensive Player of the game), four sacks and two safeties. P.J. Winston lead Laredo with seven catches for 128 yards and three touchdown catches. Laredo quarterback Rocky Perez threw for 284 yards and rushed for 45 yards.
Hawaiian Islanders 55, SAN DIEGO RIPTIDE 54 (Attendance: 3,743)
SAN DIEGO - Darnell Arceneaux ran in a two-point conversion in overtime to give the Hawaiian Islanders (4-2) the 55-54 victory over the San Diego Riptide (1-4). Channon Harris caught a touchdown pass to tie the game at 47 with four minutes left, but neither team could score in the final minutes and the game went into over time. On the night Arceneaux threw six touchdown passes. New Islander Nate Jackson was the leading receiver for Hawaii with six catches for 86 yards. Kane Claunch threw five touchdowns and ran for one for the Riptide. San Diego's Dwight Carter recorded three touchdowns. The only turnover of the game was a pass by Kane Claunch, intercepted by Joshua Robinson late in the fourth quarter.
