SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Former Memphis RiverKing Riley Cote (pronounced koh-TAY) has announced his retirement from professional hockey playing, and is moving into the coaching ranks. Cote, who played four seasons in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers, has announced that he will become an assistant coach with the Adirondack Phantoms, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Flyers, where he finished his professional playing career this past season.
With the Memphis RiverKings in 2002-03, Cote played in 51 games, scoring eight goals, 14 points, and had 241 penalty minutes. He added one goal and 51 PIMS in 14 playoff games, as the RiverKings won the second of its back-to-back CHL Ray Miron President's Cup championships under coach Doug Shedden.
That same season, Cote played in six games with the AHL St. John's Maple Leafs, failing to score and getting five PIMS.
In his pro career, Cote played in 156 NHL games, all with the Flyers, scoring one goal for seven points with 411 penalty minutes. He played sparingly for the Flyers this season, failing to score while being tagged for 24 penalty minutes in 15 games. He did not play in the Flyers' run of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
