August 9, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Set to ring-in the electric excitement that will mark their first-ever campaign as a bona fide member of the newly-created International Hockey League / Central Hockey League Super League, the freshly-minted Evansville IceMen have formally unveiled their regular season schedule for their debut season in 2010-11. Having committed to the "quantum leap" of this AA Super League, the Evansville franchise will participate in a league schedule consisting of 66-games spread over the period of time of some 25-weeks, spanning from opening night, Friday night, October 15, 2010 through to the regular season finale of Sunday, March 27, 2011.
For their inaugural IHL / CHL season, the IceMen and their faithful fond following of fans will enjoy an exceptionally appealing home schedule of dates. The new IceMen schedule will accentuate and otherwise emphasize league rivalries and outstanding premium weekend home dates at the team's 2010-11 home lair of Swonder Ice Arena. In fact, 28- IceMen home dates are on the docket as either prime-time weekend dates and attractive weekday dates.
Included in this season's IceMen schedule of home appearances, specifically, are 16-SATURDAY NIGHTS; 10-FRIDAY NIGHTS and 2-SUNDAY EVENING contests at Swonder. All dates are recognized as especially fan friendly and excellent for a great night-out for families.
The IceMen will officially usher-in season one in the IHL/CHL Super League on Saturday night, October 16th at 6:30 pm CST when they travel to Dayton to be guested by the Gems. It's the first game of a two-games' season-inaugurating foreign ice excursion for the hometown team, capping the trek the following Friday, October 22nd in Mississippi against the RiverKings in a 7:05 pm CST opening face-off.
The night, however, that all of the Greater Evansville area will be pointing to and anxiously anticipating will be the IceMen home opening night extravaganza which is set for SATURDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 23RD AT 7:35 PM when they lock antlers with the Quad City Mallards at Swonder Ice Arena.
Game time for all IceMen home games is set for 7:35 pm.
The 2010-11 IHL/CHL Super League will consist of 18-teams comprised of two nine-team divisions. The five IHL teams, namely the Bloomington PrairieThunder, Dayton Gems, Fort Wayne Komets, Quad City Mallards and the IceMen will all be slotted in the same league division along with CHL entries, the Colorado Eagles, Missouri Mavericks, Rapid City Rush and Wichita Thunder. The other division will have the following member clubs; the Allen (TX) Americans, Arizona Sundogs, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Laredo Bucks, Mississippi RiverKings, Odessa Jackalopes, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, Texas Brahmas and Tulsa Oilers.
The overall schedule will be of an unbalanced nature expressly to accent intra-divisional rivalries as Evansville will tangle with their IHL divisional fractious foes in 46 of its total of 66-games. Dayton will be the Icemen major opponent with 15- clashes on tap between the two teams; 8 of those will be in Evansville with the remaining 7 at Dayton. The IceMen will battle three time IHL defending Turner Cup kingpin Fort Wayne on 11-occasions (4-home, 7-away) as well as Quad City 11-times (7-home, 4-away). There will be 9-bouts between Bloomington and Evansville (4-home, 5-away).
Completing the team-by-team breakdown, the IceMen will tackle Mississippi 8-times (3-home, 5-away); defending CHL titlist Rapid City 4-times (2-home, 2-away); Missouri twice (1-home, 1-away); Bossier-Shreveport twice (both away); Tulsa 2-times (1-home, 1-away). Evansville will collide in single outings against both Arizona (1-home) and Colorado (1-away).
The club's most ambitious months will be December (13-games); November (12), February (12) and March (12). The IceMen most home appearances for a single month will occur in November with 8-dates, including a season-longest 5-games' home stand while March lists 6-home appearances for the Evansville contingent.
There will be 9-times during the regular season in which the IceMen will be faced with the rigorous regimen of 3-games in 3-days/nights. On another 5-occasions, they will confront the daunting assignment of 4-games in 5-days/nights.
The IceMen will be announcing their pre-season game schedule in the near future. Evansville is expected to see action to the tune of three pre-season dress rehearsals as a harbinger to the official launching of the regular season campaign.
