KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Tim Doherty have announced the signing of former St. Louis Cardinal Rico Washington for the 2010 season.
Washington, 31, was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 1997 amateur draft. After six seasons in the Pirates organization, Washington spent two seasons with the San Diego Padres and one with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays before joining the Cardinals in 2006. He made his major league debut as a pinch-hitter on April 1, 2008.
"It's good to have a veteran leader like Rico join the team," said Doherty. "He brings experience and the talent to play either third or first and will be a good left-handed addition to the middle of the lineup."
Washington went three-for-19 (.158) in 14 games with the Cardinals during the 2008 season. He enters the 2010 campaign with a.278/.370/.442 line in his 12-year minor league career.
The T-Bones begin their 2010 campaign in Gary, Ind. on May 20 and will host the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in their home opener on May 28. Season ticket packages and mini plans are available now by calling 913-328-5618. For information on group outings, call 913-328-5623.
