Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats are giving one fan the chance to broadcast a game this summer at U. S. Steel Yard through the RailCats Radio Challenge, presented by 89.1 FM The Lakeshore. The contest will begin at the team's second annual Fan Fest, Saturday, February 20 at the Radisson Hotel in Merrillville.

The RailCats Radio Challenge winner will be in the broadcast booth at U. S. Steel Yard, calling the play-by-play for three innings of the RailCats Memorial Day, May 31 game at 3 p.m. against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The winner also will be welcomed to co-host an evening of Lakeshore Sports Tonight on 89.1 FM, Wednesday, June 2 from 6:00 - 6:45 p.m.

All it takes to enter the RailCats Radio Challenge is a ticket to Fan Fest, Saturday, February 20 where fans will get to broadcast the RailCats ninth inning comeback in Game Four of the 2008 Northern League Semifinals from Winnipeg, culminating with Jay Pecci's game-winning and series-clinching home run. Video of the inning - for entertainment and study purposes - is available at www.railcatsbaseball.com and on the RailCats YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/TheRailCats.

Fans need to get to Fan Fest early - the event begins at 10 a.m. - to sign up for one of only 24 slots to broadcast during the day. Each contestant will broadcast the three minute segment at Fan Fest for judges Andy Viano (RailCats play-by-play broadcaster since 2008), Len Clark (Program Director at The Lakeshore), Tom Nichols and Alan Garrett (both former RailCats play-by-play announcers), who will pick finalists based on their three minute performance. Three finalists will be announced at the Fan Fest Closing Ceremonies at 3 p.m. and advance to the second stage of the competition.

Following Fan Fest, on Friday afternoons from March 12-26 one finalist each day will appear live on 89.1 FM's Lakeshore Drive with host Len Clark and get a chance to launch their campaign to be in the broadcast booth. Finalists will also be profiled on www.railcatsbaseball.com and have audio of their three minute Fan Fest call available on the website for voters. During the week of March 29-April 2, fans will make the final choice through online voting at www.railcatsbaseball.com, and the winner will be announced live on Lakeshore Drive on Friday, April 2.

To be eligible for the RailCats Radio Challenge, contestants must be at least 13 years old, have never been employed by or associated with a radio station, television station or other broadcast entity and be available on both Monday, May 31 and Wednesday, June 2. Just for taking part in the challenge, all participants will receive a free reserved ticket voucher for the RailCats May 31 game at U. S. Steel Yard and can be provided with a CD of their play-by-play on request.

The RailCats second-annual Fan Fest is a day packed with ballpark fun in the middle of winter, with baseball clinics, question-and-answer forums, autograph sessions and more providing the perfect thaw for the winter freeze. Discount presale tickets are on sale now for $20 for adults and $10 for 2010 season ticket holders and kids (age 12 and under) by calling the RailCats at 219.882.2255 or visiting www.railcatsbaseball.com.
