Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced Tuesday that they have signed goaltender Chris Mason to a professional tryout agreement. The 6-foot, 200-pound netminder is a veteran of 317 NHL games with the Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues, Atlanta Thrashers and Winnipeg Jets.
"I talked to Ryan Tobler and Chris Stewart and they brought up a scenario where I could come in and maybe be an emergency goaltender," said Mason. "I know that the Eagles have had a lot of issues the last couple of years with guys getting hurt and bringing guys in, so this is a chance to maybe have a little more stability in that position. I'm not looking to come in and win a job or anything, I'm more of a support role, where in case they need me, I'm there."
The former 5th round pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft has also seen action in 270 games at the AHL and IHL level with the Milwaukee Admirals, Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and San Antonio Rampage. In addition, the Red Deer, Alberta native appeared on the Team Canada roster in the World Championships in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010, winning a gold medal at the 2007 with Canada in 2007 and a silver medal in 2009.
"Having the opportunity to bring in a player with the experience and track record that Chris brings to the table is incredible," said Eagles head coach Aaron Schneekloth. "The ability to rely on him in an emergency situation and to have him around our younger players in camp is nothing but a good thing."
Season tickets for the 2016-17 season are on-sale now and can be reserved with a $50 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468). The 2016-17 regular season home schedule kicks off on Saturday, October 15th when the Eagles host the Rapid City Rush. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
