Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards today unveiled the team's roster for the start of the Mallards' 2016 training camp, which opens tomorrow afternoon at the iWireless Center.
The camp-opening roster includes 13 players: forwards Grant Arnold, Connor Brown, Chris Francis, Nelson Gadoury, Joe Harcharik, and Michael Parks; defensemen Josh Elmes, Donnie Harris, Mike Monfredo and Andrew Panzarella; forward/defensemen Kyle Follmer; and goaltenders Tanner Millliron and C.J. Motte.
Francis, Motte, Panzarella and Parks join the Mallards having already taken part in training camp with the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild before being released by Iowa Monday. Seven other players under contract to the Mallards are still at AHL camps. Forwards Jack Nevins and Sam Warning and defenseman Jace Coyle are at Wild camp while forwards Justin Kovacs, Alex Taulien and Nathan Todd and defenseman Kevin Gibson are in camp with the Chicago Wolves.
Francis last season played for Alba Volan Szekesfehervar, a Hungarian club that competes in the Austrian Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. Parks is returning to action after injury limited him to just three games as a rookie with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms last season. Panzarella and Motte both competed in the ECHL as rookies last season: Panzarella for the Idaho Steelheads and Motte for the Elmira Jackals.
Warning skated for the Mallards as a rookie last year. Coyle played overseas the last two seasons- first in England and then in Denmark. Nevins spent each of his prior two pro seasons in the AHL with the Rochester Americans and Hamilton Bulldogs.
Gibson and Kovacs are both approaching their second professional season while Todd and Taulien are both rookies. Gibson skated for the Mallards last year; Kovacs for the Kalamazoo Wings. Todd turns professional after playing in the junior ranks for the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League while Taulien completed his collegiate career at Elmira College last spring.
The coming season will be the Mallards' fourth as a Wild affiliate and their second as the organization's sole ECHL farm club. The Mallards will hold the first practice of training camp at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. The full camp schedule is below.
The Mallards will open their twentieth season in the Quad Cities on Friday, October 14 at 7:05 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets at the iWireless Center.
