Former NBA D-League All-Star Jerel McNeal Returns to Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, February 24, 2014 - The Bakersfield Jam today announced that they have acquired two-time NBA D-League All-Star selection Jerel McNeal.

McNeal (6-3, 200, Marquette) averaged 18.1 points, 5.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 44 games (36 starts) last season for the Jam, who acquired him in a trade with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers prior to the start of the 2012-13 season. A 2013 NBA D-League All-Star selection, McNeal tallied 13 points and seven assists for the Prospects Team during the 2013 NBA D-League All-Star Game in Houston. On March 27, 2013, McNeal received a NBA GATORADE Call-Up by the Utah Jazz. He was originally signed by the Jazz to a 10-day contract, then signed for the remainder of the season on April 6. He was also named to the 2013 All-NBA D-League First Team. In addition, McNeal was a NBA D-League All-Star selection in 2011 while a member of the Vipers.

Most recently, McNeal played in 15 games for the Zhejiang Chouzhou Golden Bulls (China) and averaged 21.5 points, 4.7 assists and 2.9 steals in 33.3 minutes. He has also played in Belgium and in Italy.

The 26-year old has had two NBA regular-season stints; one with the Utah Jazz and the second one with the New Orleans Hornets in 2011. McNeal has participated in NBA training camps with the Toronto Raptors (2012), Houston Rockets (2010) and the Los Angeles Clippers (2009).

The Chicago native played four seasons at Marquette University (2005-09), averaging 15.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists during his tenure. McNeal finished his four-year career as Marquette's all-time leader in scoring (1,985), steals (287) and game played (130). In his senior season (2008-09), McNeal was named Associated Press Second Team All-American, First Team All-Big East, USBWA Distract 5 Player of the Year and Marquette University's Most Valuable Player after averaging 19.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.0 steals.

McNeal will wear number 11 and is expected to be in uniform for tonight's game when the Jam host the Idaho Stampede at 7:00 p.m. PST. The game will be broadcasted LIVE on CBS Sports Network.
