LYNN, MA (June 7, 2011) - Former North Shore Navigator Sean Gilmartin of Florida State University was selected 28th overall by the Atlanta Braves on Monday night in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.

Gilmartin, a junior left-handed pitcher who was a member of the Navs in 2009 as a freshman, went 12-1 with a 1.83 ERA this season for the Seminoles. The California native had 122 strikeouts in 113.1 innings this spring and held opponents to a .208 batting average.

He is the highest-drafted player in Navigators history, exceeding former Florida lefty Kevin Chapman, who was drafted in the fourth round of last year's draft. Gilmartin becomes the 17th Navigator to be drafted by an MLB organization.

Gilmartin also represented the USA Baseball Collegiate National last summer, going 2-1 in four appearances.
