In just 2 days a new crop of Danbury Westerners will take the field and you could have a front row seat to see the next Stephen Strasburg, Matt Joyce or Ian Gardeck in Danbury.
On Tuesday June 7th four former Westerners were drafted by Major League Baseball clubs. Ian Gardeck (White Sox), Rhett Stafford (A's) and John Gianis (Angels) from the 2010 Western Division Champions and Devon Jones (Orioles) from the 2009 club will be offered contracts to continue their baseball careers as professionals in the same manner as Joyce, Strasburg, Olt and many others have in the past.
The Westerners wish to congratulate all four former Westerners, thank them for their service and making Danbury their summer home, and hope that all their baseball dreams come true.
Who will be this season's future MLB draftees... Only time will tell. Don't miss a minute of action. Get out to Rogers Park and cheer tomorrow's major leaguers, today. First pitch Friday evening at 6:30 PM.
The new Westerners take on the Mystic Schooners on Friday and North Adams Steeplecats on Saturday. Be on-hand to see the action and meet the players.
