Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Toledo Mud Hens will be well represented in this season's playoffs with a total of fourteen (14) former Hens competing as players and coaches with the eight playoff teams. Following is a list of the former Hens.
Anaheim Angels:
*Outfielder Curtis Pride hit .231 in nine games with Toledo in 1996.
*1B Coach Alfredo Griffin hit .244 in 147 games with Toledo in 1976 & 1977.
Atlanta Braves:
*Bench Coach Pat Corrales was Toledo's Manager in 1988 (team finished 58-84).
Boston Red Sox:
*Outfielder Gabe Kapler hit .315 in 14 games with Toledo in 1999.
*Infielder Dave McCarty hit .268 with 31 HR in 132 games with Toledo in 1999.
*Pitching Coach Dave Wallace went 5-6 in 62 games with Toledo in 1974 & 1975.
Los Angeles Dodgers:
*Pitcher Jose Lima went 17-16 in 46 games for Toledo from 1994-1996 (pitched a no-hitter on 8/17/94).
*Pitcher Jeff Weaver struck out 10 batters in a rehab start with Toledo in 2000.
*Outfielder Cody Ross (not on active roster) hit .287 with 20 HR in 124 games with Toledo in 2003.
*1B Coach John Shelby hit .316 in five (5) games with Toledo in 1990.
Minnesota Twins:
*Pitcher Seth Greisinger (not on active roster) went 10-15 in 40 games with Toledo from 1998-2003.
*Hitting Coach Scott Ullger hit .275 with 55 HR and 233 RBI in 461 games with Toledo from 1982-1986.
New York Yankees:
*Infielder Tony Clark hit .254 in 197 games with Toledo from 1994-2000.
*Pitcher C.J. Nitkowski went 4-6 in 20 games with Toledo in 1996 & 2001.
Other Notables:
*Yankee Manager Joe Torre's brother Frank hit .327 in 150 games with Toledo in 1955.
*Red Sox Infielder Doug Mientkiewicz was born in Toledo.
*Houston Pitcher Jeremy Griffiths pitched for the University of Toledo
*Yankee Outfielder Ruben Sierra was traded to New York from Texas for former Hen Marcus Thames.
*Pedro Martinez pitched for the Toledo Mud Hens in 1998 (no, not that Pedro Martinez).
