Arnsberg named Toronto Pitching Coach

Syracuse, NY- The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that SkyChiefs Pitching Coach Brad Arnsberg has been named the new Pitching Coach of the Toronto Blue Jays and former Chief's catcher Ernie Whitt will serve as Bench Coach for the 2005 season. The two will serve under the Club's new fulltime manager, John Gibbons, who had served in the role on an interim basis since August 8.

ARNSBERG, 41, will serve as Pitching Coach for his third Major League team after holding the title for the Montreal Expos in 2000 and 2001 before joining the Florida Marlins in 2002 and part of the 2003 season. Under ARNSBERG'S helm the SkyChiefs pitching staff was fourth in the International League in strikeouts (995) and fifth in walks allowed (424) during the 2004 season. Five of the twelve pitchers on the SkyChiefs 2004 Opening Day roster earned a promotion to Toronto and 15 of the 23 pitchers to appear for the Blue Jays this season also pitched in Syracuse.

WHITT, 52, has served as a roving Catching instructor for the Blue Jays since 1997 and played for Toronto from 1977- 1989. He appeared in 121 games for Syracuse in 1978 batting .246 with 12 HR and 53 RBI and in 114 games in 1979 batting .249 with 7 HR and 43 RBI. WHITT was the Manager of Team Canada in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games this August in Athens leading the team to a spot in the Bronze Medal Game.
