Former MoonDog Called up to the Twins

MANKATO, Minn.--The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is thrilled to announce that former MoonDog, Cole DeVries, received a call up Tuesday from the Minnesota Twins.
DeVries is expected to start on the mound Thursday v. the Chicago White Sox after Twins starter Jason Marquis was optioned after just seven starts. So far this season, DeVries has posted a 4.24 ERA with 37 strikeouts and just 7 walks in 46 innings pitched for the triple-A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings.
The Eden Prairie native spent the 2004 summer with the MoonDogs as a right-handed pitcher. Throughout the season he appeared in 13 games with 6 starts recording a 3.56 ERA, and 57 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched. After his time with the MoonDogs, DeVries finished his college career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers until he started his career with the Twins minor league system in 2006.
With Jason Marquis being removed, the Twins will already be using their ninth starter of the season. The pitching staff needs defibrillation, and they hope the Minnesota native's 4 pitches and consistency will shock the opponents in the future series.
The MoonDogs home opener is scheduled for Friday, June 1st at 7:05 p.m. against the St. Cloud Rox at Franklin Rogers Park.
