Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club announced today that former LaPorte High School baseball/football star Brad Mumma (pronounced MOO-muh) has been signed as a free agent. RailCats manager Greg Tagert made the announcement.

Mumma, a left-handed pitcher, suffered through an injury-plagued 2006 season that included one appearance with the RailCats, but he expects to be completely healthy for 2007. Mumma also pitched in 31 games in the Toronto Blue Jays organization last season, going 1-3 with one save and a 5.44 earned run average with Dunedin and Lansing.

Mumma was an all-state baseball and football player at LaPorte and also played four years of varsity basketball. He was selected as an All-State Honorable Mention as a first baseman in 1999 at LaPorte, where he set the school's single-season and career home run record. He was also selected as a 1998 Indiana Football Coaches Association 1st Team All-State and Academic All-State choice.

He attended Western Michigan University before being selected by the Blue Jays in the 32nd round in 2003. His career with the Blue Jays peaked at the Double-A level in 2005.

Signings: The RailCats also announced today that second baseman Eric McNamee and outfielder Mike Reese have been signed for 2007, bringing the number of signed players to five for the upcoming season. In addition to Brad Mumma, third baseman Tanner Townsend and outfielder Dale Mueller had previously been signed. The RailCats also maintain the rights to 18 other players who have not yet been signed for '07.

McNamee hit .261 in 55 games for the RailCats in 2006 as the club's starting second baseman. He suffered a broken wrist on June 24 and was out of action until August 9. McNamee started all nine playoff games. He also played with the RailCats in 2005.

Reese played for Traverse City of the Frontier League in 2007, batting .269 with seven home runs and 33 stolen bases. He was acquired in a trade last fall.
