RICHMOND, VA – (Monday, May 16, 2005) – Former Kickers midfielder Clyde Simms continues his rapid rise to prominence on the national level and was recently called into the US Men's National Team training camp for the upcoming friendly against England on May 28 in Chicago. The match serves as preparation for the approaching qualifiers against Costa Rica on June 4 and Panama on June 8.

Simms first gained recognition when he was called up to participate in a replacement training camp with the US Men's National team in January of this year during the labor dispute between the U.S. Soccer Federation and the U.S. Men's National Team Players Association. Upon resolution of the dispute, Simms was the only USL player to be named to the 28-man roster for training camp in preparation for the World Cup Qualifier in February. Most recently, he was named as an "alternate" to the training camp in late February.

Prior to the 2005 season, Simms became the 20th player in Kickers franchise history to advance to Major League Soccer when the Kickers transferred his playing rights to MLS. D.C. United retained his services after using a discovery option. So far this season, he has appeared in six games with D.C., starting four, for 393 minutes.

The Jamestown, N.C. native appeared in 31 games for 2,571 minutes with the Kickers in 2004 and started more games than any other rookie that season (28). An instrumental part of the midfield, Simms recorded three goals, two of which were game-winners. The 5'10" midfielder is a graduate of East Carolina University where he was a Third-team All-C-USA selection for two consecutive years (2002, 2003) and concluded his collegiate career tied for fifth all-time in games played (72).
