Omaha Nighthawks News Release
OMAHA, NE - TUESDAY, NOV. 16 - The Omaha Nighthawks may be out of contention for the UFL Championship Game, but that didn't stop them from continuing to try and upgrade their talent. On Monday, the Nighthawks signed former Nebraska standout safety MATT O'HANLON. O'Hanlon will look to help out the Nighthawks on special teams this weekend, as the Florida Tuskers come to town for a 7:30 p.m. (CST) kickoff on Friday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.
O'Hanlon played at Nebraska from 2005-09, and he earned Honorable-Mention All-Big 12 honors after his senior season. In 2009, O'Hanlon led the Huskers with six interceptions, the most in the program since 2003. The Bellevue, Neb., native also helped the Blackshirts lead the nation in scoring defense and pass efficiency defense. Following his stellar career, O'Hanlon signed a free-agent contract with the Carolina Panthers. He then spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants in the preseason.
"Matt is a quality player and a guy we've had on our radar for a while," Nighthawks General Manager RICK MUELLER said. "We are excited to have him join the team and to see what he can do in front of our great Omaha fans, who have been following his career for a long time."
