Tuskers Must Win In Omaha For The Right To Face Locos In Title Game Rematch
Published on November 16, 2010 under United Football League (UFL 1) News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Tuesday, November 16, 2010 - The Las Vegas Locomotives have been sitting and waiting in the UFL Championship Game driving seat since the end of Week 7, waiting for a team to join them.
That wait will end on Friday night
The Locos finally will find out who their championship game opponent will be from the result of the Omaha Nighthawks-Florida Tuskers clash at Rosenblatt Stadium. A Tuskers victory will set up a rematch of the 2009 UFL title game, while a Nighthawks win would vault the Sacramento Mountain Lions, who have the league's Week 10 bye week, into the spotlight by way of edging a three-team head-to-head tiebreaker.
The Tuskers (4-3) would advance by virtue of a 5-3 record, while the Mountain Lions (4-4) would win a head-to-head tiebreaker within the group of three tied teams. At 3-1 they would advance ahead of Omaha (2-2) and Florida (1-3).
HDNet will have the live broadcast of the Tuskers-Nighthawks game from a sold out Rosenblatt Stadium, with Kenny Rice (play-by-play), Paul Maguire (analyst), Ron Kruck and Paul Crane (sideline) bringing the action to a national audience beginning with the pre-game show at 7pm Central (8pm Eastern).
In the league's regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon (3.30pm Eastern), the Locos will look to fine-tune their game and stay healthy following a bye week when they travel to Rentschler Field to take on the Hartford Colonials. This is a rematch of their game in Week 6 at Sam Boyd Stadium, which ended in a 24-21 overtime win for Las Vegas in the longest game in league history.
Join Craig Minervini (play-by-play), Doug Flutie (analyst), Ryan Nece and Damon Hack (sideline) for the live broadcast of Saturday afternoon's contest on Versus.
While Las Vegas (5-2) will go on to play either Florida or Sacramento and look to defend its 2009 championship, on Saturday, November 27 at 11am Central (12pm EDT, 9am PDT), the Colonials are playing for pride.
"It's the last game of the season," said Colonials receiver Pat Carter. "Some guys are going home, some guys are going on to the next level. Hopefully everybody comes in with a professional mindset and approaches the game the way it should be approached."
