Former Hawks Scorer Gets New Home

Waterloo, Iowa - Justin Kloos was a substantial contributor during the highest-scoring season in Waterloo Black Hawks history; his quest for the first point of his NHL career has taken a turn toward the west coast.

On Wednesday evening, the Anaheim Ducks acquired Kloos in a trade with the Minnesota Wild.

The 25-year-old has appeared in one NHL game, debuting with the Wild on October 24, 2017. Since then, Kloos has skated for Minnesota's American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Wild. This season in Des Moines, Kloos has accumulated 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists) in 34 games. At the time of the trade, he was Iowa's co-goal leader.

Kloos played his first USHL game for Waterloo in March of 2011, before joining the team fulltime in 2012/13. That winter, he was the second-leading scorer for the team and in the league as the Black Hawks recorded 273 goals in 64 games. His 87 points were only outpaced by linemate Taylor Cammarata, who had 93. Kloos' individual highlights included two five-point performances and four separate scoring streaks of five games or longer. Waterloo tied a then-club record with 39 wins in 2012/13. The team also won the silver medal during the 2012 Junior Club World Cup in Omsk, Russia.

Kloos is one of four members of the 2012/13 Black Hawks to have appeared in an NHL game. Vinnie Hinostroza (Arizona Coyotes), Ian McCoshen (Florida Panthers), and Cal Petersen (L.A. Kings) have also gone on to the accomplishment. In addition, Mark Friedman (Philadelphia Flyers) and Eamon McAdam (Toronto Maple Leafs) are also signed to NHL contracts.

In between Kloos' full season in Waterloo and when he signed with the Wild in March of 2017, Kloos spent four years with the University of Minnesota Gophers. He was Minnesota's captain during both of his upperclassmen seasons and recorded 150 points in 155 NCAA games.

Kloos' NHL contract extends through the remainder of this season. The Ducks visit the Wild tonight in St. Paul.
