Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE- The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that defensive lineman Damien Jacobs has signed with the Jacksonville Sharks for the 2017 season.
Damien Jacobs (6'3", 300) will enter his rookie season in arena football after spending two seasons as an NFL free agent. In 2014, Jacobs signed with the Buffalo Bills as undrafted free agent. The promising young defensive lineman competed throughout the majority of the team's 2014 training camp but was released by Doug Marrone on August 25, just shy of the NFL regular season.
Jacobs spent the beginning of his college career with East Mississippi Community College, a NJCAA powerhouse made famous by the Netflix Original Series "Last Chance U". During his time at EMCC the Lions won the 2011 NJCAA National Championship with an undefeated 12-0 record under head coach Buddy Stephens. During that season he recorded 47 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks and two fumble recoveries. As a result, Jacobs was rated a four-star JUCO prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com before he transferred to the University of Florida. As a Gator, Jacobs spent his final two years playing in 23 games, racking up an impressive 34 tackles, six for a loss, and 2.5 sacks alongside Jaguars first-round pick Dante Fowler Jr. During Jacob's final year at Florida, he had 24 tackles, 3.5 for a loss, and one interception. The 300 pound lineman had a career high six tackles against Georgia Southern and was awarded the Gator's Patrick Courage award.
Jacobs attended H.L. Bourgeois High School in Louisiana where he was rated the 75th best defensive lineman in the nation and 3rd in Louisiana by Rivals.com after his stunning 91 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 6 forced fumble senior year performance. Jacobs also earned The Courier / Daily Comet's Defensive MVP for Class 5A. The highly recruited lineman received offers from Florida State, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Nebraska. He verbally committed to Florida State before choosing the JUCO route to start his college career.
