Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release
BOARDMAN, Ohio. - Mahoning Valley Thunder Head Coach Mike Hold has named Mike Schneider as starting quarterback, replacing Glen Gauntt who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday night. Schneider's first start will pit him versus the Manchester Wolves (3-4) on Cortland Banks Field at the Chevrolet Centre this Friday night.
Schneider (6'2, 220) spent the first seven games of the season serving as a backup to Gauntt. Thus far, he has appeared in three games, completing 7-of-20 passes for 94 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In his af2 debut on April 21 versus Cincinnati, Schneider's first pass fell incomplete. After a stellar prep career at Sharon High School in Sharon, PA, Schneider played three seasons at Duke University, starting in 23 of the 29 games he appeared in. He finished his career with the Blue Devils completing 288-of-547 passing for 3,009 yards and 12 touchdowns. After earning his degree from Duke in Cultural Anthropology, Schneider played his final year of eligibility at Youngstown State.
Gauntt suffered a broken thumb in the loss at Florida last week. He is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.
