Former Defenseman Oleg Yevenko to Play for Belarus at IIHF World Championship

FARGO, ND -Former Fargo Force defenseman, Oleg Yevenko, has been named to the National Belarus roster and will compete in the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Ice Hockey World Championship taking place from May 9-25 in Yevenko's hometown of Minsk, Belarus.

Yevenko played with the Force from 2009-2011, putting up 17 points in 101 career games played. He held a plus/minus rating of +13 and had a total of 316 penalty minutes. He became one of the most reliable defensemen for the team during his USHL career. In 2011, he committed to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst where he is currently playing and is set to be a senior in the fall. In the 2013-14 season, he played in 32 games and logged 1 assist. He ranked eighth in Hockey East in blocked shots with 63. The Belarusian native has been invited to two NHL prospect camps over the past two summers, the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils.

The first game of the World Championship is this Friday, May 9 versus Team USA at 12:30 PM. NBC Sports will also have coverage of the quarterfinals, semifinals and the 2014 IIHF Championship game, which will air live on Sunday, May 25 at 1 PM.
