Danville Dashers News Release

Danville, IL - With the start of the season rapidly approaching, many higher-level leagues have or will soon begin training camp. Here is a look at where some of last year's Dashers are trying to make a splash in camp.

Vinny Caligiuri: Vinny made his pro debut last season with the Dashers appearing in 30 games, notching 7 goals, adding 12 helpers for 19 points and was a -8. Caligiuri also played in 7 games for the Fayetteville Marksmen (SPHL) last season and was a -6 with zero points. This season Vinny will be in camp for the new SPHL expansion team the Quad City Storm. Head coach Dave Pszenyczny had this to say about Caligiuri[1] "Vinny is looking to make a name for himself in the Quad Cities after successful stints in Danville and Fayetteville."

Jimmy Soper: Soper, like Vinny, made his pro debut last season in Danville putting up 30 points with 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 games. Half way through the season, Jimmy was called up to the Macon Mayhem (SPHL) where he appeared in 20 games and added 3 goals, 7 assists and 10 points. [2]"Soper brings that hard work, grit and overall compete level to our club" said head coach Leo Thomas. "He's a player with a lot of potential who gained valuable experience with us last season."

Aaron Taylor: Taylor came to the Dashers after spending 3 seasons with the Stouffville Spirit (OJHL) and was a 10th round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection draft by the Owen Sound Attack. With the Spirit, Taylor played in 118 games was 58-48, had a 3.04 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Last year was Aaron's pro debut with the Dashers, where he appeared in 26 games, was 9-12, had a 3.13 GAA and .914 save percentage.

Craig Skudalski: Maybe the player who is getting the most buzz this offseason is Craig Skudalski. Craig is currently in training camp with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins the minor league affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Skudalski made his pro debut in 2016 with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs (SPHL) and the Danbury Titans (FHL). Since then he has split time over the last few seasons in both leagues with the Macon Mayhem and Fayetteville Marksmen (SPHL) and the Danville Dashers.[3]"He's a big guy; he can skate," Head Coach Clark Donatelli said of Skudalski. "Any time you have that playing defense, we have time for him. We're going to continue to work with him and see where it goes."

Craig is no stranger to the organization as he participated in the Wheeling Nailers camp last season, the ECHL affiliate of the Penguins and was at the WBS Penguins open camp this summer.
