Former D-Braves Make MiLB All-Star Teams

DANVILLE, Va. - RHP Gregg Ross and 2B Jose Peraza, two former Danville Braves playing for the Lynchburg Hillcats, have been named to the Advanced-A level Carolina League All-Star Team. Both four year pros are expected to play in the game, with Peraza expected to start and Ross expected to appear in relief. Both players will be making their first career professional All-Star appearance.

Ross, a product of Frostburg State University in Maryland, has an ERA of 2.61, good enough for 6th in Carolina League. Ross has a 4-1 record in his 12 appearances this season, and is expected to have three more starts before the All-Star break. Peraza ranks third in the league in batting average (.319), and second in triples (7) and total bases (100). Peraza leads the Carolina League in hits (76) and is tied for the lead in stolen bases (27).

Five former D-Braves playing for the Double-A affiliate Mississippi Braves have also been named mid-season All-Stars.

After starting this season on the disabled list, SS Elmer Reyes ranks second among the Southern League in batting average (.335). The 23 year old has 54 hits in 45 games, and has belted two home runs with 25 RBI. OF Mycal Jones stands at 10th in the league in BA (.301) with three home runs and 15 RBI. Jones also ranks 4th in the Southern League in on-base percentage (.410). This is the first All-Star selection for Reyes and Jones.

Starting Pitchers Aaron Northcraft and Williams Perez, along with reliever Shae Simmons will also represent the M-Braves in the Double-A All-Star Game. Northcraft is third in the league in wins (6), sitting at 6-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched. Perez (3-3) ranks second in ERA (1.91), WHIP (0.96), and ranks third in opponent's batting average (.205). Simmons, who was promoted to the Atlanta Braves Saturday, May 30, led the Southern League with 14 saves in 20 appearances. The 23 year old struck out 30 batters in 23 innings, with an ERA of 0.78. Simmons gave up runs in only one appearance with the M-Braves, and after that April 28 outing recorded nine straight saves.

The Class-A level Rome Braves have three former D-Braves that were named to the South Atlantic League All-Star Game. For SP Yean Carlos Gil, C Victor Caratini, and OF Victor Reyes this will be their first professional All-Star selection. Gil is currently third in the SAL with a 2.26 ERA in 13 appearances for the Rome Braves. Caratini is batting .301 with two home runs and 22 RBI, and Reyes is batting .295 with 27 RBI.

The 2014 Carolina/California League Advanced-A All-Star Game will be held on June 17, at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, Delaware. The Class-A Level South Atlantic League All-Star Game will be held on June 17, at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, North Carolina. The Southern League Double-A All-Star Game will also take place on June 17, at AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
