Former Colt Brian Leigeb joins L.A. Avengers

December 3, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Brian Leigeb, who played in 15 games for the Indianapolis Colts during the 2002 NFL season, has been acquired by the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.

He will be one of 37 Avenger players participating in a three-day mini camp, which begins tomorrow morning at West Los Angeles College.

Leigeb (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) was a free safety for the Colts and finished the 2002 season with 11 tackles. With the Avengers, he will be a defensive specialist, something he is already familiar with, having played in one game for the Grand Rapids Rampage during the 2001 AFL season.

"When I was coaching with the Indiana Firebirds, I remember seeing Brian when he was with the Colts," said Hodgkiss, who led the Avengers to an 11-5 record and No. 4 playoff seed last season in his second year with the club. "He's a great athlete and a physical defensive back with good size. In addition to all that, he knows the AFL game already, so we feel very fortunate to pick him up."

Leigeb was a record-setting defensive back at Central Michigan University, where he was named the team's Most Valuable Player after leading the Mid-American Conference with an average of 13.4 tackles per game as a senior in 2000. He established several Chippewa records, including tackles in a career (490) and single game (26).

Born on Oct. 2, 1978, Leigeb attended Dow High School in Midland, Mich., where he earned three letters in basketball and two in football.

Avenger season tickets for the 2004 campaign, which begins on Feb. 8, are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com.
