Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins will present "The Great Skate," a 24-hour skating marathon at the Rosa Parks Ice Rink in downtown Grand Rapids, from 10 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 6, until 10 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. During this second annual event, every Griffins player and coach will take a turn skating with fans for at least one hour around the clock to raise money for the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation.
The Great Skate will feature raffles, special events and live music, including the singing of Christmas carols by the Crossroads Middle School 8th Grade Choir from 4-4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Snacks and drinks will be available throughout the event, compliments of Starbucks and Meijer stores. There is no admission fee, but fans are encouraged to make a donation of any amount to the Griffins Youth Foundation. Participants will receive a Great Skate T-shirt for a $10 donation, and an event sweatshirt for a $20 donation.
Funds raised by the foundation have provided free rental skates used by more than 100,000 skaters at the Rosa Parks Ice Rink since 2000.
