Columbus Clippers News Release

I thought I would catch you up on everything that's been happening since the Clippers season has ended.

The major league division playoffs have been great! I find that I pull for all the former Clippers, no matter which team they are playing with this season. Do you know that there has never been a World Series which didn't have a former Columbus player that was on one of the teams. That's amazing!

There is still a lot going on around the place. Terrror Park is in full swing and doing wonderfully. For those who don't know, Terror Park is our annual haunted house. We are open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday evenings in October. We take thousands of people thru the dark tunnels under the stadium and scare the bajives out of them. I never thought I'd say this but it's a lot of fun!

Six Yankee farmhands are currently playing in the Arizona Fall League. Pitchers Sam Marsonek, Eric Schmitt, Ben Julianel, outfielder Kevin Thompson and infielders Yobal Duenas and Mitch Jones are playing for the Grand Canyon Rafters.

Marsonek (insert) is strengthening his knee that he injured during an All-Star break fishing trip. After the first week of play, Sam is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA. He has struck out eight in 7.1 innings, while walking five.

Schmitt is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA and his striking out a man an inning. He has not walked anyone.

Julianel, a southpaw, was 5-5, with 10 saves and a 2.49 ERA for Tampa-A. He struck out 72 in 61 innings. With Trenton this past season, he was 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA. Ben is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in four games in the AFL.

Thompson, an outfielder, is hitting .333 with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBI this fall. With Tampa-A this season, he hit .356 with four doubles and two HRs before being promoted to Trenton, where he hit 17 doubles and nine home runs in just 270 AB. Kevin stole 29 bases.

Jones is also hitting .333 after the first week of the season, with five doubles and two homers. He has struck out 12 times in 27 AB. With Trenton, he hit .246 with 39 home runs and 97 RBI. He struck out 152 times. Mitch plays first and third base.

Yobal Duenas is a middle infielder. He his hitting .250 for the Rafters. He saw limited action with the Gulf Coast Yankees this season.

John Rodriguez is working out in town.

And news is that Mike Kelly is retiring.

Other than that, not much is happening on the roster front.

Talk to you next week.
