Former Baltimore Raven among news signees for Buffalo

(BUFFALO, NY) – The Buffalo Destroyers announced today they have signed free agents FB/LB Tyrell Peters, OL/DL Brad Keeney, OL/DL Jason Jewell and DS Chuck Wesley.

Peters (6-0, 235, Oklahoma) played 27 games in three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens from 1997-99 earning a reputation as a tough, hard hitting linebacker and solid special teams contributor. Peters was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent in 1997. Peters was a three year starter for the Sooners and recorded over 100 tackles in each of his last three seasons.

Keeney (6-2, 285, Citadel) played for Destroyers head coach Ron Selesky in 2000 with the Carolina Cobras. He was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers in 1996 and has spent time with the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Frankfurt Galaxy and Scottish Claymores, both of NFL Europe.

"Tyrell and Brad bring a wealth of NFL experience to our team," said Selesky. "Both are very talented and we are looking forward to them doing some great things for us.

Jewell (6-5, 290, New Mexico St.) signed with the Richmond Speed of af2 last season after graduating from New Mexico State. He appeared in five games and recorded 1.5 tackles, one sack and one pass defense. Jewell played offensive tackle for the Aggies.

Wesley (6-1, 190, Rhode Island) will begin his Arena Football League career after having an outstanding career at the University of Rhode Island as a defensive back. Wesley never missed a game in college and ranked No. 5 nationally in pass interceptions in 2001 with 0.64 per game.

"Jason and Chuck both have the potential to be great players in the Arena Football League," Selesky added. "I'm looking forward to seeing these guys in training camp."

The Destroyers also announced they waived WR/DB Hassan Probherbs. Buffalo kicks off its fifth season in the Arena Football League Saturday, February 1, 2003 as the Destroyers host the Grand Rapids Rampage at the HSBC Arena. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444!
