December 4, 2002 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Portland Forest Dragons News Release
The Northern League hired Mike Marshall as director of baseball operations Wednesday, commissioner Mike Stone announced.
Marshall and his family are relocating to the new league office in Fort Worth, Texas, effective immediately.
Marshall's duties will include processing daily transactions and salary cap data, scheduling and working with umpire supervisor Butch Fisher.
A former 11-year major leaguer with Los Angeles, the New York Mets, Boston and California, Marshall was a 1984 National League All-Star and won World Series rings with the Dodgers in 1981 and 1988.
From 1995 to 1998 he worked as the executive director with the West Austin Youth Association before being named player-coach with the Schaumburg Flyers in 1999.
The Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs, formerly of the Northern League's East Division, named Marshall their manager in 2000. He spent the last three seasons there and undertook the added role of team general manager in 2002. He posted a 141-122 record as manager of the Diamond Dogs.
"I'm happy Mike Marshall is joining the Northern League office," Stone said. "The combination of experience he has as a player and in management will serve him well in this position.
