Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI. The Traverse City Beach Bums have announced the signing of former Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Josh Ward. The 6'3" 220 pound Ward is a native of Donalsonville, Georgia, where he was drafted in the 37th round out of the out of high school by the Braves. After high school Ward played one season at Chipola Junior College before signing with the Braves through a since abolished draft-and-follow rule that allowed major league teams to keep the rights to players they draft when they go to Junior College.
Ward spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons pitching in the Braves farm system, reaching as high as the single A level. Ward's career minor league totals include a 3.81 earned run average in 49.2 innings pitched while walking 16 and striking out 35. A hard thrower with a heavy fastball in the 90 mph range, Ward has the ability to keep the ball in the park - only giving up 2 home runs so far in his pro career. Ward was used strictly out of the bullpen with the Braves and will compete for the role of set-up man on the Beach Bums pitching staff.
