Former All-Star Lupandin Added to Mallards Roster

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards Head Coach and General Manager Brian Curran announced today that defenseman Andrei Lupandin has been signed to the team's 2005-06 roster. The veteran defenseman has 193 pro points (63 goals and 130 assists) in 378 games.

Last season, Lupandin played 67 United Hockey League games with Flint and Kansas City. During a 50-game stint with the Generals, he recorded 11 points on seven goals and four assists. Lupandin was dealt to Kansas City with Paul McBrien in exchange for Vaclav Zavoral on March 7th. He played 17 games in Kansas City and recorded 13 points on two goals and 11 assists.

Lupandin spent the previous three seasons playing primarily in the ECHL. In 2003-04, the 6-foot, 190-pound blueliner scored 24 points (six goals and 18 assists) in 42 games. He was an ECHL All-Star during the 20001-02 season when he recorded a career high in goals (19) and points (41) while playing for the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones and Greensboro Generals and the American League's Cleveland Barons.

Before beginning his pro career, Lupandin was a member of the Western Hockey League (WHL)'s Brandon Wheat Kings. The Kharkiv, Ukraine native won a WHL Championship with the 1995-96 Wheat Kings.

The Mallards open the 2005-06 season on Friday, October 21st in Flint vs. the Generals. The 11th home opener in franchise history is slated for Saturday, October 22nd vs. the Motor City Mechanics. Opening Night is presented by Valley Bank. Festivities include a $1,000,000 Giveaway of valuable offers from Mallards Marketing Partners. Two fans will shoot for $100,000 courtesy of Valley Bank. A pre-game pyrotechnics show will welcome the 2005-06 Mallards to the ice. Illinois Quad City Chamber members receive special priced tickets for opening night.
