
UHL alum makes NHL debut

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- Former United Hockey League (UHL) player Raitis Ivanans made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) on Saturday evening. Ivanans earned a spot on the Montreal Canadiens (NHL) roster and saw game action in Saturday's 5-4 win vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ivanans professional career began in the United Hockey League during the 1997-98 season when he played 18 games for the Flint Generals. The 26-year-old native of Riga, Latvia appeared in 66 games during the 2000-01 season for the New Haven Knights, scoring a career best 14 points (4g, 10a) and racking up a career high 270 penalty minutes. In 2002-03, Ivanans played 50 games for the Rockford IceHogs and tallied six points (4g, 2a) and collected 208 penalty minutes. He last appeared in the UHL during the 2003-04 season playing one game for the Rockford IceHogs. His career totals in 135 UHL games include 8 goals, 13 assists, 498 penalty minutes, and a plus-12 rating.
The United Hockey League is entering its 15th season which begins play on October 21st. The league is comprised of 14 Member Clubs competing in seven states.
