Former Admirals Set to Battle For Calder Cup

NORFOLK, Va. - Four former Norfolk Admirals are now set to battle for the American Hockey League's Calder Cup title, as Quintin Laing's Hershey Bears and Nolan Baumgartner, Mark Cullen and Jason Jaffray's Manitoba Moose and will play in the Calder Cup Finals beginning this weekend.

The Hershey Bears won the Richard F. Canning Trophy as the AHL's Eastern Conference champions yesterday, as they defeated the Providence Bruins in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bears are the top affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals. Former Admiral Quintin Laing now skates for the Bears.

Laing, 29, is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound left wing from Harris, Saskatchewan. He recently recovered from a spleen injury and has skated in Hershey's last three games, recording one goal and one assist. Laing's first 357 career AHL games came as an Admiral from 2000-01 to 2005-06. He scored 47 goals and 82 assists for 129 points in those games. Laing's name appears in several places on the all-time Norfolk Admirals (AHL) lists, including second in games played, eighth in goals, fourth in assists and seventh in points.

The Manitoba Moose won the AHL's Robert W. Clarke Trophy as the American Hockey League's Western Conference champions yesterday, as they defeated the Houston Aeros in the Western Conference Finals. The Moose are the top affiliate of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks. Former Admirals Nolan Baumgartner, Mark Cullen and Jason Jaffray now skate for the Moose.

Baumgartner, 33, is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman out of Calgary, Alberta. He has four assists in 16 postseason games for the Moose. Baumgartner appeared in 139 career games with the Admirals from 2000-01 to 2001-02, scoring 15 goals and 52 assists. He captained the 2001-02 Admirals squad to a South Division Title.

Cullen, 30, is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound center from Virginia, Minnesota. He has three goals and eight assists in 16 postseason games for the Moose. Cullen spent one season with Norfolk, recording 29 goals and 39 assists in only 54 games with the Admirals in 2005-06. He finished second in goals, assists and points with the Admirals that season.

Jaffray, 27, is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound left wing from Olds, Alberta. He ranks second with the Moose this postseason with 14 points, as he has six goals and eight assists in 16 games. Jaffray made his AHL debut with the Admirals in 2002-03, appearing in two games.
