'Force gets break for All-Star Game
January 17, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD (January 17, 2006) - The All-Star break could not have come at a better time as the Sioux Falls Skyforce has a lot of questions to answer with 20 games remaining in the regular season. The defending CBA Champions have looked great at home (12-2), however, their inability to win on the road (3-11) has put them in third place heading into the All-Star break, and finishing third will keep them out of the playoffs after winning it all just last season.
The biggest question to answer will be who will the âForce bring in to fill the void of the three-headed monster, Rodney Buford, Brandon Hunter, and Stephen Graham. All three of the âForce's CBA All-Stars have moved on as Buford and Hunter decided to take their games overseas, and Graham is in the final stages of signing a 10-day contract with the Chicago Bulls. There has been no All-Star break for coach Joerger as he has been working diligently to find adequate replacements for the recently departed trio. This is not new to coach Joerger as he knows that in the CBA you have to be prepared to lose your best players at any given time. The same thing happened last season as Corsley Edwards and John Thomas were called-up to the NBA and coach Joerger brought in Donnell Harvey and Jerome Beasley as the team did not skip a beat.
The 22nd Annual All-Star Classic will be played tonight at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho. The event's title sponsor is Athletes.com and will be hosted by the Idaho Stampede. The Hopkins Financial Slam Dunk competition and the Long Distance Shootout will begin at 6 p.m. (MT) with the All-Star game beginning at 7:15 p.m. (MT). Skyforce forward Noel Felix was named as a replacement for one of the departed players and will be the lone âForce player on the roster.
