Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release

Sioux Falls, SD (February 11, 2006) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Rockford Lightning tonight 129-117 (6, 1) to improve to 21-16 on the season. Billy Thomas was back in the lineup after his NBA call-up fell threw and he did not seem affected by the bad news as he scored a season-high 29 points as the ‘Force won two key games over the league-leading Rockford Lightning. Rockford dropped to 25-13 but still leads the CBA with a 4.2 quarter-points average.

Thomas was out of the lineup the previous night as he believed he was headed to the NBA to join the Washington Wizards. However, the NBA call-up did not occur and Thomas was surprisingly in good spirits and ready to go against the Lightning. Rockford played well in the opening quarter and led by as many as 12 points (31-19) with just over a minute to go in the first quarter. Rockford eventually won the first quarter 31-21 behind eight points each from Ronnie Fields and Roger Powell. The ‘Force played much better in the second quarter as they would tie the score at 41 a piece with 3:30 remaining in the second quarter. The ‘Force would trail 50-49 at halftime but won the second quarter 28-19 behind 10 points from Chris Owens. The ‘Force took their first lead of the game (51-50) early in the third quarter and led 82-78 after three quarter. The ‘Force won the third quarter 33-28 behind seven points from Thomas. The ‘Force would lead by as many as 12 points (94-82) two minutes into the final stanza and appeared to be in control of the game. However, the Lightning chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to two points (109-107) with under 3:00 to go in the game. That would be as close as Rockford would get as the ‘Force won the final quarter 47-39 to finish off a weekend sweep of the best team in the CBA. Joe Dabbert came up big in the final stanza as he had 10 of his season-high 21 points in the fourth quarter.

The Skyforce's next game is on Thursday, February 16th, at home against the Dakota Wizards. Tip-off is set for 7:05 pm at the Sioux Falls Arena.
