Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Indiana (February 11, 2006) - The Gary Steelheads increased their current win streak to a season-high six games with a 127-97 victory over the Albany Patroons at the Genesis Center Saturday night. With the victory, the Steelheads reached a high water mark of 7 games over .500 at 22-15. They also earned six quarter points for the evening.
The Patroons had a two-point lead in the early moments of the game, before Gary took control and sprinted to a 34-20 lead at the end of the first quarter. As was the case on Friday night, the Patroons fought back and gained their only quarter point with a 32-30 second quarter effort. The Steelheads won each subsequent quarter, increasing their lead to as many as 33 points in the second half.
Gary was paced by CBA All Star Game MVP Randy Holcomb, who tied his CBA career scoring high with 32 points and 13 rebounds. All Star guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter scored 30 points for the winners, his third game this week of 30 points or more. For the season, "Snap" has now scored 1,019 points. This places him 3 points shy of tying the franchise single-season scoring record. Guard Bryant Notree scored 1,022 points for the Steelheads during the 2002-2003 season. The Patroons were paced by rookie guard Ronald Thompson, who scored 33 points in a losing cause. Former Steelhead Edmund Saunders added 18 points with 9 rebounds.
The current win streak has seen the Steelheads surge from a 3.6 quarter point average to 4.0, the second best quarter point average in the league. Gary will travel to Rockford Tuesday night to meet the team they are chasing in the Eastern Conference. The Steelheads will originate a road broadcast from the MetroCentre in Rockford, airing over SportsJuice (www.sportsjuice.com) on the Internet.
