TODAY'S FEED: Could not be happier to report that we arrived safely to Bowie, MD during the middle of the night. Stopped at this awesome place in Frederick on the way. Who knows what this week has in store.

SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Flying Squirrels continue their road trip and stroll in the state of Maryland where they open up a four-game series with the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles). It is the first time these two squads have crossed paths since late May (5/22-5/25). The four Baysox starers for this series will make their first starts against the Squirrels this year. Bowie and Altoona got to know each other really well during the beginning of the season as they met 17 times from April to the end of May (most frequent opponent for the RVA). After Sunday, the Squirrels have only played one other team this many times (Altoona Curve). Richmond captured three of the four games in the last meeting against Bowie. Two of the Squirrels' starters in that series have since been promoted to Triple-A Sacramento (Chris Stratton, Jack Snodgrass). Richmond outscored Bowie 28-18 in the last series between the two at Prince George's Stadium (5/14-5/17). In April, they played a bizarre two-game series in Bowie and that was in the middle of the Richmond's 15-game losing streak. The team teams opened up their 2015 seasons against one another (4/9-4/12). They battled right out of the gates and experienced two 14-inning marathons. In total, the Squirrels have played five series with the Baysox and they have won the last three. They are 10-7 against the team from Bowie, MD. Bowie is third in team hitting (.259) and pitching in the Eastern League (3.36).

LOGJAM: The playoff push continues to get more and more interesting in the final full month of the regular season. The Squirrels have been everywhere from second all the way to fourth place in the last week. Richmond relocated down to fourth place for the first time since August 1 after Friday's loss. The club has only been in fourth place for four days since July 19. They were only one game back of the first place Bowie Baysox from July 21-25. Richmond has dropped 10 of their last 15 games and this includes a six game losing streak and currently a three game slide.

THE LUMBER COMES TO LIFE: Sunday marked a much needed offensive outrage for the Squirrels. The team tallied eight runs in the 8-6 victory over Altoona. It is the most runs scored in a game for the RVA since July 21 (8-0 vs Akron). Richmond racked up 16 hits and 15 of them were singles. Myles Schroder provided the only extra base hit and it occurred in the first inning (solo home run). Hunter Cole leads the team in hitting (.319) and he as well as power hitter Ricky Oropesa did not play so it was the unexpected offense who came up huge. Juan Ciriaco has only started 11 games with Richmond and he drove in a season high three runs (first multi-RBI game this year). These 16 hist the Squirrels recorded on Sunday are almost more than what the offense produced in the three games prior (18 hits). Six hitters for Richmond posted multi-hit games. The Squirrels scored two runs in the first inning and that is the first time they have scored in the first frame since August 1.

TROUBLE AGAINST SOUTHPAWS: Richmond dealt with an extreme dosage of left handed pitching in the Altoona series. They have faced left handers, in fact, in their last five road games all against Altoona (7/28, 7/29, & last series). Before Sunday, the Curve starting southpaws fooled Squirrels' hitters left and right and only absorbed one earned run through 25 innings. Sunday was turnaround as they put up 11 hits and six runs against lefty Zack Dodson of Altoona. The current Richmond roster is hitting .241 against lefties.

THE QUIET ROAD: Richmond has won just one road game in their last eight attempts. Before Sunday, the Squirrels had scattered just five runs over their previous six games away from The Diamond. They have been shutout three times during this span (all to Altoona). The last time Richmond won a series away from home was in Harrisburg (6/16-6/18). They have played in six road series since then.

OKAY, IT'S YOUR TURN: The starting staff picked up the heavy diet from the bullpen for the most part in the Altoona series. Tyler Beede and Joan Gregorio both threw six innings each and allowed three runs total (just one earned). Joe Biagini came off the disabled list Sunday and went five innings (three earned runs). On July 30, the Richmond relievers allowed a collective 10 runs in an 11-3 defeat. Since the bullpen imploded for 10 runs that day, the relievers have been in control. The bullpen was really tested on July 31 after starter Joe Biagini departed earlier than expected. He lasted only 21 pitches (1.0 IP) due to back pain. The bullpen did not allow a run in eight innings during that day. The Squirrels' relief pitchers did not abosorb a run in a stretch 24.1 innings (7/31-8/6, following the 10 run epidemic). Two runs scored Friday while the bullpen was on the mound, but both runs were unearned. So, the stretch of innings without an earned run allowed covered 26.1 innings. The longest scoreless streak documented by the bullpen this season is 25 innings (5/23-5/29).

BOWIE STARTING PITCHER: LHP Ariel Miranda (1-1, 1.72)

Miranda will make his fourth start for the Baysox and just his 10th professional start of his career. The 26-year-old is in his first season in American baseball. He played the last seven seasons in a Cuban League and posted a 3.24 ERA (13 starts) in 2013. Miranda signed with the Orioles organization on May 23, 2015 and his signing will not be subject to rules regarding the international signing bonus because of his age and experience. So far with Bowie, he has delivered 15.2 innings in three starts, given up 16 hits, eight runs (just three earned). Prior to this, Miranda made five starts with the Frederick Keys (A+). His professional debut happened on June 22, 2015 (3.0 IP, 6 K) with the GCL Orioles.
