
Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced for August 3-August 9

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of August 3rd through August 9th:
Reading Fightin Phils catcher Andrew Knapp has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 3rd-August 9th. The 23-year old hit .600 (15-for-25) with two doubles, one triple, four homers, 13 RBIs, nine runs scored, four walks and a 1.240 slugging percentage in six games for the Fightins last week. Knapp, who is a native of Roseville, California, had at least one hit and drove in at least one run in all six games he played in last week and had multiple hits in five of those games, including going 2-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBIs in an 11-1 win at Trenton on Wednesday night. The 6'1", 190 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.600), hits (15), extra-base hits (7), total bases (31), homers (4), RBIs (13), on-base percentage (.655), slugging percentage (1.240) and OPS (1.895) last week and tied for the lead in runs scored (9). He was also ranked among the weekly league leaders in triples (1-tied 2nd), doubles (2-tied 8th) and walks (4-tied 9th). Andrew, who is hitting .403 with 17 doubles, six home runs and 40 RBIs in 34 games for the Fightins since being promoted from Class-A Clearwater, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2013 draft out of the University of California.
Michael Fulmer, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Erie SeaWolves, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 3rd-August 9th. The 6'3", 200 lb. hurler started two games for the SeaWolves last week and had a record of 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Fulmer, who is a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, made his first start of the week on Tuesday night against the visiting Portland Sea Dogs and threw 6.2 shutout innings while combining with two other pitchers on Erie's first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory. He gave up two hits while striking out six batters and walking two in his first start with Erie since being acquired in a trade from Binghamton. In his second start of the week Fulmer fired six shutout innings in Erie's 5-0 victory over the visiting Harrisburg Senators on Sunday afternoon. He scattered five hits and struck out five batters and walked one while extending his scoreless inning streak to 23.2 straight innings, which dates back to his final two starts with Binghamton. The 22-year old led the league in strikeouts (11) last week and tied for the lead in wins (2) and ERA (0.00). Michael, who currently leads the league with a 1.64 ERA, was acquired by the Detroit Tigers in a trade with the New York Mets on July 31st. He was originally drafted by the Mets with the 44th pick of the 2011 draft out of Deer Creek High School in Edmond, Oklahoma.
