Orange County Flyers News Release
CHICO, Calif. (June 28, 2010) - The Orange County Flyers pitchers held the league-best offense to a mere three hits en route to a 9-3 win over the Chico Outlaws at Nettleton Staidum on Monday night. Orange County improves to 14-17 on the season and are now 6.5 games out of first place for the first half South division crown with 14 games to go in the half.
Byung-Hyun Kim threw six scoreless innings, giving up only two hits while striking out five Outlaws and walking three. Kim (2-0) combined with Jesse Smith and Jamie Niley to shutout Chico through eight innings. The three hits by Chico was the lowest hitting output by a Flyers opponent so far this season.
Sergio Pedroza put the Flyers on the board with a solo homerun (4) to lead off the second inning. The left-fielder finished the night going 2-for-5 with 3 RBI. Second baseman Jimmy Rohan aided the offense going 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Leading 9-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Niley got into trouble walking three batters and hitting three more as the Outlaws got three runs across. Bryan Harris came into the game with bases loaded and one out, getting a ground ball for a game-ending double play to preserve the win.
Orange County and Chico continue this three-game series on Tuesday at Nettleton Stadium at 6:35pm. Manny Ayala (4-0) makes the start tomorrow for the Flyers against Chico's Kris Honel (6-0).
