Orange County Flyers News Release
FULLERTON, Calif. (August 2, 2010) - The Orange County Flyers get their last regular season look at a team from north of the border when the Victoria Seals visit Fullerton College for three games over two days to begin the week. The Flyers have held training camp at Fullerton College each year, but this will be the first time OC plays a regular season game at the facility.
The Flyers are one win away from matching a franchise record 10-straight wins set during the first half of the 2009 season. Two teams in the GBL have put together double-digit win streaks already this season: Edmonton won 13 in a row from June 26 to July 15, and Yuma strung together 10 straight from May 25 to June 6. Victoria took three games of the four-game series against the Flyers at Royal Athletic Park in May.
LAST TIME OUT: Orange County swept a doubleheader against the Edmonton Capitals on Saturday to win their ninth straight game, sweeping a third-straight series. Starting pitcher Manny Ayala tossed a complete game (7 innings) for his league-leading ninth win of the season in the first game of the doubleheader, a 6-2 win for OC. Ayala (9-0) struck out six against no walks, limiting the hothitting Capitals to two runs and five hits.
The Flyers broke a 1-1 tie when catcher Alex Jamieson hit his third career triple to score David Harris and Tyler Keeble for a 3-1 lead. Steve Boggs added a pair of RBIs in a 2-for-4 performance en route to the win.
In the second game, rookie David Harris took the first pitch of the extra-inning bottom of the ninth out of the yard for the Flyers 2-1 win.
The Flyers and Caps battled to a scoreless as OC's Zach Cline and Edmonton's Evan White combined to allow 8 hits through the first five innings. Steve Brown's bases loaded sacrifice fly put Edmonton ahead 1-0 in the top of the seventh, and Zach Mandelblatt scored from third on a passed ball to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. The teams battled into extra innings until Harris crushed his second extra-inning walk off homerun of the year off reliever Yosandy Ibanez.
