Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

Hidalgo, TX: August 16, 2005 - arenafootball2 announced their weekly awards for post season action and Rio Grande Valley Dorados WR/DB Marquis Floyd earned US Army Ironman of the Week honors for the Semifinals of the 2005 ArenaCup Playoffs. Floyd, a Monroe, Georgia native who was named to the All-af2 First Team on Monday, led all receivers in the Dorados 65-42 win in Tulsa with nine receptions for 139 yards and three touchdowns. The second-year pro also made an impact on defense and special teams. He registered an interception on Tulsa's opening possession from his own endzone and then closed out the game's scoring by returning a Tulsa onside kick for a ten-yard touchdown.

This US Army Ironman of the Week award is the second received by Floyd this season after claiming it in Week 12. Floyd's accolade marks the seventh time a Dorados member has been recognized this season for an af2 weekly award. Defensive specialist Norman Mason earned ADT Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 8 and 9, Chris Robinson claimed the US Army Ironman award in Week 4, Dwight Counter earned the Offensive Player of the Week award in Week 11 and Curtis Jeter garnered ADT Defensive Player of the Week accolades last week. The seven awards more than doubles the overall amount of weekly awards the Dorados earned last season, in which Karleton Thomas received ADT Defensive Player of the Game in Week 1 and Eddie Motten received the same honor for Week 14 and 18. Media members seeking an interview with Floyd and/or Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-843-5656.

The Dorados head to Southaven, Mississippi for the National Conference Championship against the Memphis Xplorers Friday night. If the Dorados defeat the Xplorers, they will advance to play the winner of the contest between Louisville and Florida in the ArenaCup, which will be held in Bossier City, Louisiana. Additional information on the Dorados can be found by visiting the Dorados online at www.doradosfootball.com.
